We were saddened to learn of the passing of Chuck Rockwood, a dear friend and long time club member . Chuck loved to Tarpon fish and will be missed.


Charles Ainsworth Rockwood III, 89

July 7, 1921- January 31, 2011

 

Bloomington: Charles Ainsworth Rockwood III "Chuck" passed away of pneumonia on January 31 at Bloomington Hospital.  Chuck was born in Des Moines,Iowa to parents, Charles Ainsworth Rockwood II and Mabel Roach Rockwood.  The family moved to Indianapolis when Chuck was 5.  He graduated from

Shortridge High School in 1939, attended New Mexico Military Institute, and graduated from Indiana University in 1942.

   Chuck joined the Army after attending ROTC at IU and was an Infantry Officer.  He served in Europe during World War II with the Rainbow Division.  His Army career included tours in Salzburg, Panama, Thailand and Vietnam.  Chuck retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 21 years of service.  Following his Army career he worked in various administrative positions at Indiana University, retiring from IU in 1978.  Subsequently, he became a real estate broker and a licensed Merchant Marine Captain.

   Chuck is preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Jean Rockwood and his brother, Clyde Roach Rockwood. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Schavul Rockwood and his four children: Lucy Rockwood

Allen of Colorado Springs, CO, Lynn O'Harrow Wilson (Bob) of The Woodlands, TX, Charles Ainsworth Rockwood IV (Judy) of Hinesville, GA and Clyde Jefferson Rockwood (Diana) of Jasper, TX and four stepchildren:Diane Matt (Carl Norbeck) of Denver, CO, Suzanne O'Shea of Carmel, IN, Robert Matt (Marsha) of Greenfield, IN, and Kay Fields(Rudy) of Bloomington, IN and 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shalom House, American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

   Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, corner of 4th and Washington Streets at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 4, 2011.  A celebration of Chuck's life will immediately follow at Meadowood Retirement Community.
